EVALUATIVE STATEMENT

The 3 point perspective and Artist 4 Artist project has led me to create two very social class oriented final outcomes. Inspired by socialist woodblock artist Frans Masereel, who would make prints about rebelling against authority, I have created a relief print highlighting the important act of protest in the modern day, focusing on Bristol’s Black Lives Matter protest. I have also made a digital illustration of a street scene depicting the issues of the class system in Victorian England, with the use of pop ups to add narrative and make the piece interactive to the viewer. I intend for the these pieces to encourage the viewer to think about how different peoples lives are, and how those close to you still might not share your experiences. I have learned a lot from this module by exploring painting, modelling and print in the workshops whilst improving the drawing skills I already have, and the researching of new contemporary and historical artists has opened me up to lots more possibilities. I feel that having a strong idea from the start has helped me in creating this project, by picking a subject that really interests me I’m more motivated which makes the research and rough drawings more enjoyable. I have to keep in mind time management, and not to rush towards the final outcome, but to focus on the roughs and make lots of copies to experiment with first. By making my 3 point perspective outcome A1 size to fit all the details of my drawings, I feel I have made it more challenging, especially when working out how to print it. This will teach me lessons for the future if I choose to work large scale again. Overall, I think both my final pieces are successful and informative because they are visually communicative of some interesting topics in a unique and effective way.
